Charilaos

Dikaos

Charilaos Dikaos, a Cypriot painter, studied architecture and painting at the École des Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts) in Paris (1937-1946), under instructors T.Garnier and A. Perret. He painted landscapes and the people of Cyprus in a reportage, impressionist style, featuring free brushstrokes and an economical use of colour. An emphasis on atmosphere, the quality of light and the present moment are distinctive aspects of his works, where colour blending dominates as does the artist’s efforts to ascribe colour values to his subjects. Dikeos worked primarily in watercolour and with oils.
