Christos

Foukaras

Christos Foukaras was born in 1944 in Kissonerga, Paphos. He studied Fine Arts at the Surikov Institute of Fine Arts in Moscow (1969-1970) specializing in monumental painting under the supervision of Professor Claudia Alexandrovna Toutevol. He obtained his MA in 1976, he moved to Athens where he worked until 1977 after which he returned to his home village Kissonerga, where he permanently settled. From 1979 to 2004 he worked as an art teacher in secondary schools. Now he works as a full time artist.

Foukaras participated in many group exhibitions both in Cyprus and abroad. In 1996 he got the prize for the ‘State Award’ at the sixth International Biennale of Cairo. In 2005 he is declared an honorary member of the Surikov Academy of Fine Arts, while in 2011 he received the ‘Teukros Anthias- Theodosis Pieridis Award’ by the Central Committee of AKEL.
