Costas Averkiou's Painting

Jun 16 2017 to Sep 30 2017

On the occasion of 100 years since the birth of the artist Kostas Averkiou, a selection of paintings, both oil paintings and watercolours, are on display, denoting his artistic practice from 1945 to 1981. The Museum’s interest in the work of the self-taught artist derives from the fact that the founder, Michael Zampelas, used to work in the building right next to Averkiou’s workshop. Characteristically, Mr. Zampelas says: ‘I remember we would leave our work place at midnight together, we were both very committed to our work.’ The collection of the Loukia & Michael Zampelas Art Museum currently consists of about 50 works including paintings, engravings and sketches of the artist. The paintings exhibited mainly portray the Cypriot landscape and the parent-child relationship.
