Katerina

Vavlitou

Between the years 1963 until 1969 she studied painting at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Athens under the artist George Mavroides. At the same time she studied, interior design, advertising and scenography with V. Vasiliades and ceramics with G. Georgiou. She has exhibited her work in 12 solo exhibitions and has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

Her painting follows contemporary trends, and is mainly focused on the human form in theme. In the majority of her work the artist puts emphasis on movement and the ‘fluttering’ of an image. Often working with mixed techniques, the effect lends atmospheric dimension to her images and compositions. She referenced the poetic nature of Modern Representation as well as classical archetypal prototypes. The artist also created unique sculptural constructions, using different metals that she cut, engraved and wrote on.
