Kyriaki Phili: Artist’s Talk

May 27 2017 - 11:00 to 12:00

Artist Kyriaki Phili discusses the themes related to her periodical exhibition, speculum mundi, with the audience. On the one hand, the protagonists in Kyriaki’s work are the people portrayed in Vermeer's genre paintings. On the other, her main research for this exhibition focuses on the notion of the gaze, which she brings into question by referring to frescoes and paintings starting with the Renaissance era, when artists would portray themselves in the narrative, gazing at the viewer.
