The Loukia & Michael Zampelas Art Museum is located outside the walls of Nicosia, in Kaimakli. Being a modern architectural building, by Athos Dikaios and his associates, combines the modern with the Cypriot traditional architecture still preserved in the area. An in-between bridge, part of the new building of 2012, highlights the remarkable site of the Museum that overlooks the mountain of Pentadaktylos.
Bridging Three Generations – Loukia & Michael Zampelas Art Museum
“Loukia and Michael Zampelas have always had a vision and this was always at the forefront. This vision was very well known to all of us who worked with them.
The pair wanted to honour two things; firstly the area of Kaimakli, the place where they have lived their whole lives and secondly to the arts of which they both share a great love.
Art and Culture in Cyprus needs a stimulus and the example of the Zampelas Art Museum structure shows the way and we hope that others will follow.
Kaimakli, a degraded area due to its proximity to the Dead Zone, has been upgraded acquiring a ‘light house’ of culture that is very much in need.”
